Age
Everybody
thinks we are in the information age.
And everybody
knows that everything in the information age is fast moving. Nothing
lives for long. We named the information age years ago. So is the information
age still alive?
I see
us in the third stage of the information age. The first stage was marked
by everybody's attempt to get the information. This
getting was the beginning of what we call the early information age.
We started using computers and networks.
The second
stage was how to find the information. There is so much information,
but nobody really knew how to access it easily and especially where
from. Search engines were invented.
At the
moment, we are dealing with the third stage. Search engines gives us
all the information we want. Unfortunately, they give us much more.
Not only the thousands of hits our query produced, we also get advertisement.
Now
our dilemma is to choose the right information. Choice is always renunciation.
We are used to getting advertisements and other forms of information
overflow. We have learned how to distinguish between useful and useless
information. What is different now is that marketing makes it possible
to give us exactly all the information we need. It is all useful now.
That is what we all wanted in the beginning.
Now we
have to deal with it.
