Radio Diarö

In 1997 my colleague Axel Rockmann and I decided that it is time for Germany's first college radio over the Internet. Our university does not have a radio station at all, so we had to build "Radio Diarö" from ground up.

We had to develop a concept, investigate the network structure, install RealAudio servers, set up audio equipment, etc. Then we also did the advertising, broadcasting and DJ-ing all by ourselves.

During this project, I did not only learn a lot about the technical aspect of new technology, but also how to motivate and target the right audience. We used what we learnt about the social impact on new media. Knowing that the introduction of new technology always has to meet the users requirements to survive, we experimented with this knowledge.

There was no money involved during the whole project.
